Description
This piece was one of my earliest and most fun, simple compositions. It was inspired by reading Ralph Waldo Emerson's Poem Monadonoc which sets the exciting first couple of lines:
Thousand minstrels woke within me,
"Our music's in the hills."
The piece establishes a ramping up of the strings using a triplet motif as a backdrop for a wonderous and expansive melody which then is echoed as pizzicato during the B-section before returning to the hopeful main theme. This piece was originally premiered at North Springs Charter School in Atlanta, and when on to win the ASTA Merle J. Isaac Prize in the fall of 2009. This is a great piece for any string orchestra playing solidly at level 3.
